I move that Dudette be banned, she's embarrassing me.
I watched Liberty or Death on PBS last night, it was really very good, it was presented with actors one of which read Patrick Henry's speech, very well done I thought and quite interesting.
It basically captures the moments when the congress decided to break away from Britain.

OK, the acid test! Would you want Gordon Brown as your Prime Minister, and the Queen as your head of state. If you can't hack it, the deal is off for good, else I'll have a word.
Ok that one is a bit too Brit for me, I think I'll need a translation here. lol
Jeez I'd better get out there and start mowing or I'll never get it done. : /

Theoretically the Queen runs the country. But in the past, the Brits got a bit fed up with that, but instead of kicking her out, we said all right, you can pretend to run things and we will pretend you run things, but in actual fact we would rather have a Prime Minister who does all the serious country running business. You just wave you hands a bit, give a couple of speeches each year, visit a few hospitals, keep a few crazed corgis and have a few tea parties for the tourists.
So the Queen pretends to be the Head of State, your equivalent to the President. But the Prime Minister is the one who really holds all the strings and is the democratically elected leader of our country.
Technically Britain is a monarchy, but in reality we are a parliamentary democracy. The Queen is just for the tourists. But don't tell anyone. Shhhh!

That's great! May is a musical genius! Did you know that he built his own guitars, thus getting that un-duplicatable sound?
