Atom I must thank you for making me re-read Zap's OP. I thought this thread was just for a certain type of rock (i.e. heavy metal, etc.). That's why I posted the ones I did...however now that I know it's for whatever I like, you people will be seeing some serious diversification around here! lol!
That was Dobie Gillis and Franky Avalon sitting right front. LOL

A Classic!
I remember those old time red double decker buses! They didn't have doors at the back. First day of school I didn't get to the door in time, the bus started, it wasn't going that fast so I decided to jump off. Oh, what a mess.
The next day, the conductor, for they had conductors in those days that came around asking for fares, had a quiet word with me. He advised not jumping off the bus when it was moving. To this day I heed those wise words.

There ain't no cure for the summertime blues.
I always did like that song! Great summertime hit!
HEY! That singer reminds me of someone... lose the pork chops and you got JOE!I hear ya.
I almost attended Woodstock #1, but we decided not to at the last minute. I was born and raised and lived most of my life about 150 mi. from there, so it was no biggie getting there.
I honestly can't say that I regret missing it, it was quite the mud bath, you know.
I would like at this time to remove that last comma in the post above if I may, in theory.
I used to try too hard.
I don't bother anymore.
That's what maturity is really about.
Check that post #34 out, it's the essence of youth.
Youth rocks. It feels good. It feels like life. I feel it if I can con my brain into it.

The way to do that is to listen to the song.

(...)Goes well with the weed. :sqrolleyes:Ferre, that is hott! I hadn't heard or seen it before.
Listen to me;
The thing that the white balls are drawn to is called the plate. It is positive.
The thing that the white balls are coming from is called the cathode, it is negative.
The thing that is directly below the cathode is the heater (a simple filament of nickle cadmium wire), it heats the cathode to the point where the cathode emits the white balls.
The white balls are electrons, the particles that are active in electrical conduction.
Now the kicker..
this all happens because plus is attracted to minus and vice versa.
The heat from the heater forces some of the cathode's atom's electrons to the valence band, an outermost orbit of an atom, where they aren't affected by the pull of the nucleus of the atom so easily, and where they become available for conduction (easier to be pulled away from what's keeping them there in the first place, which is the nucleus of the atom).
The nucleus of the atom, which is hugged strongly by positive particles called protons, is the positive force that holds an atom's constituents together until at which point they're ripped away by an external force.
This is not conjecture, folks, this is real science.
Oh wait, this is a music video thread isn't it, k n/m.

"Weird Science"Nothing weird about it, son, that is a pictorial of a vacuum tube only missing the control grid, which is called the gate on a transistor. Very common stuff to the knowledgeable in the area of electronics, sir.
There are other grids that may be present as well, such as what's called a screen grid. The screen grids electronic abbr, is called G2. There can be a focus grid as well, but that would be only in the case of CRT's in most cases (cathode ray tube/picture tube).
Muddy
20-08-2009, 12:41 AM
The weird science is in the video.
I'm with you, I was reading your explanation with great interest, you know I love science, specially when it's about particles and forces like electricity, gravity and magnetism and then this editing issue blocked the information flow.
That's sad. that's software's getting in the way of natural intellectual processes, the mind works with a totally different algorithm. The cathode (the grid directly above the heater filament) is made from a metal whose atoms give their electrons up readily when heated, and the cathode is always electrically close to earth ground (just a few ohms of resistance between itself and ground), earth being the source of the supply of electrons that replace the electrons that are drawn from the orbits of the cathode's atoms toward the plate grid, which has a relatively high positive voltage applied to it to attract and pull those electrons toward it (plus attracts minus and vice versa) which then can travel through circuitry hooked to the plate, this is current amplification, which is what vacuum tubes do, they amplify current. Current is the movement of electrons through a medium such as wire, silicone, or air etc.
