Survey Finds Many Britons Too Lazy For Sex

http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/WeirdNews/2009/08/10/10417406-ap.html

A report meant to highlight the health concerns prompted by rising obesity levels has found that almost three-quarters of the people it surveyed in Britain - 73 per cent - had too little energy at the end of the day for passion with their partners. More than half - 52 per cent - couldn't be bothered to walk their dogs.

One question. What does sex have to do with walking dogs? :sqeek:

I remember something with the term "dog" in it referring to Brits having sex in public...can't quite remember...have to look that up...

I have too little energy after passionate sex to walk the dog. that's why I don't have a dog.

Ah yes, apparently it's called "dogging" (http://www.wired.com/culture/lifestyle/news/2004/03/62718).

Well I have been a bit lazy of late, that is sure to have brought the stats down a bit. ;)

With one of the highest teenage pregnancy rates in Europe, I'm a little sceptical about those figures.

Well, maybe another study will find that Brits are too lazy to use a condom too. :sqwink:

"The truth is, people in the U.K. work some of the longest hours in Europe," said McMasters, a working mother. "Of course we haven't time to go to the gym or play with our kids, we're too busy being overworked."

This is true.

Scotland has some very big health issues.

From a personal point of view, the cost of living in London is very high. Going to a gym costs an arm and a leg.

I think the problems started with Thatcher. The conservative government started selling off school playing fields which got bought up by property developers. Thus a generation has now grown up without the facilities available. Add to that the concentration on exam results and a drinking culture amoung the young who have nothing better to do with their time and guess what is going to happen.

We are reaping the rewards of Thatcherism and underinvestment in the social and cultural fabric of a nation, over several decades.

I think obesity rates in Britain are second only to America. And the number of newborns from the native population has been declining over the years, as in many European countries.

So while the article gives little details about how and when the survey was done, I'm inclined to give it some credence.

But if you come to Croydon and you hear the windows a rattling, don't come a knocking. I'll be busy!

:sqlaugh:

I suspect many wouldn't even know how to use one. :sqwink:

But on a serious note I don't think it is about being lazy. Just bad education and parenting. There is a great prudishness in Britain about sex education, (and by that I am including information about relationships as well).

Most parents are too embarrassed to talk to their children about sex and leave it to the schools. The schools devote little more than a few days during the children's entire education to the subject.

So teenagers being teenagers experiment and explore their sexuality with little knowledge and rely on each other for information. You can imagine the ideas they get into their heads. Add to that the prevalence of porn on the internet these days and you end up with kids having some very warped ideas in their heads.

For instance in Holland where I believe the standard of sex education is much higher, teenagers leave having sex until they are much older and consequently the teenage pregnancy rates are much lower. In the UK, there have been reports of kids in junior school engaging in sex acts while at school. That perhaps is the exception rather than the rule but it is indicative of something not being right.

When I think of Britain, I don't think of sex.

Perhaps I'm still buying into 18th century revolutionary propaganda?

If you go down to the woods today ...

I was on a hill the other day, over looking a vast urban landscape and it reminded me of the film Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0211915/). In it at one point Amélie stands overlooking Paris and imagines how many people are making love. It is a graphic, amusing and touching scene.

I suspect the British aren't banging on about it as much as they are banging each other ;)

Hey that was quite good. He sounded like Mick Jagger a bit, how weird!

Related to dogging, there are some who like to go down to the woods and watch each other recreate as it were. An appropriate song I think :sqeek:

There are some strange people living in Old Blighty!
