Yes...rather. Sorry for delay...I move slowly through these parts until I can find a solution. Reformatting didn't fix it.

Hey! Welcome to the forum Chaka! Great to have you here!

It's looking like a routing issue.

Atom
09-12-2009, 06:20 PM
I see, so it's not just this forum then?
I wonder if his neighbors with the same ISP would have the same problem.

Zap
09-12-2009, 07:38 PM
For Muddy, it is just this one forum.

Atom
09-12-2009, 07:49 PM
Might be the home router then. With our ISP, they not only will replace the router if need be but will send a maintenance person out to configure it as well if you get in there and mess it up but can't get it back.

Muddy

Boy do I feel like a dumbass! Naturally I turned off my wireless router and DSL modem as one of the first steps in solving the "slow BTW" problem. It didn't work all those days ago...but tonight I thought I'd try it again and this time I unplugged them instead of just turning off and on the power strip. Left them unplugged for about an hour. Presto! BTW is fast again!!! Woohoo!

Sorry for the hijack Chaka.

Sorry for the hijack Chaka.Glad to hear it! We were told to unplug the modem for 10 minutes by the maintenance person, when it's lagging.

Atom

Jeez, I said router in post #28 when I meant modem, dammit. I do that a lot for some reason. Anyway, a router actually only takes 10 seconds at most to reset.

Atom
09-12-2009, 09:28 PM
I think that the modem must be governed by some imposed time limit though, because the IC reset circuitry is almost always never more than 10 seconds.

Atom
09-12-2009, 09:32 PM
It may be a case with modems though, that they use super high mfd electrolytic caps that take actually minutes to discharge, and cause a voltage on a pin of the reset IC to fall below a certain point at which time the IC resets.

Muddy
09-12-2009, 11:26 PM
I'll bet that was exactly the problem. When I turned it off the first time for about a minute, it wasn't long enough. Good grief...so simple after all this time and tons of running this and that to clean/fix this and that.
