Just finished part one. He covers so much ground in under an hour, with so many different topics, but ties them all into the same idea. My favorite section was the one about law enforcement and rights. Regardless of what country's police, and granted that some police forces are more corrupt than others, police uphold the status quo and stuff people in cells rather than fight the root of causes of crime. According to the study he cited, if unemployment increases a slight amount (1%) it causes a 6.7% increase in homicides, 3.4% increase in violent crime and 2.4% increase in property crime. These may seem like low numbers overall, but these numbers show exponential increase - murder goes up almost 7X when unemployment goes up 1%! When crime goes up more laws are passed, further criminalizing people and increasing the crowding in jails.
As far is rights which are written into the law system, he says "Legal definitions are not empirical. All of the amendments are subject to the whims of interpretation which is why they are abused by the police, homeland security and the IRS."
I couldn't have put it better myself.
On to part 2 next.
