As a group we have touched on this subject a number of times, so here is an interesting article about the subject. Homosexual animals are not as uncommon as we thought.

New Scientist: Homosexual selection: The power of same-sex liaisons (http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg20427370.800-homosexual-selection-the-power-of-samesex-liaisons.html)

n the past few years, the ubiquity of such behaviour has become apparent. This summer evolutionary biologists Marlene Zuk and Nathan Bailey from the University of California, Riverside, published a paper on the subject that included examples from dozens of species ranging from dung flies and woodpeckers to bison and macaques.

That is just the beginning of the story. The burning question is why same-sex behaviour would evolve at all when it runs counter to evolutionary principles. But does it? In fact there are many good reasons for same-sex sexual behaviour. What's more, Zuk and Bailey suggest that in a species where it is common, it is an important driving force in evolution.

You probably have to add more salt, fresh lemons, rosemary, red wine, olive oil and balsamic vinegar to bring the hair out like Greeks so you wouldn't end up gay like the lambs? :)

I've observed homosexual behavior in cockatiels. Even when there are hens present, there are some males that prefer male company. Cockatiels use UVB rays to visually sex their potential mate. I've often wondered if there wasn't something missing in their eyes, or if the male they were attracted to was somehow projecting female markings.

colour-blind?

Kind of. When they did research on the subject, and I'm frantically trying to find it at the moment, they realized that many birds used UVB lighting with a sort of black light affect, with females throwing a different pattern than males.

The list of animals displaying homosexual behavior is really quite a long list. I'm actually surprised that some people still throw out the age-old "but animals don't do it!" in debates.

Anyways, some lists courtesy of wikipedia:

When it comes down to it, if we stripped all our learned inhibitions away, we'd probably F just about anything that moves...
