One of my favourite authors is, as some of you know, Terry Pratchett. He gave a recent interview where he stated,

"I'd rather be a rising ape than a fallen angel".

Interview (http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/belief/video/2009/dec/19/terry-pratchett-religion): which is a question and answer session with an audience. (A short ad appears at the beginning.)

So let me ask you, which would you PREFER, (note I'm not asking you what you believe, but which you would prefer), to be as a species, a fallen angel or a rising ape?

I think I'd rather a fallen angel.
Maybe you'd be able to return to full angel status one day.

Yeah, and a fallen angel would certainly have more power than a rising ape.

I'm thinkin' the fallen angel could kick some ape ass.
It's not like they'd have to worry about becoming one of the fallen.

Reminds me of a good movie, actually.

A Fallen Angel = 2
A Rising Ape = 2

We are neck and neck, we are coming into the home stretch, its going to be a close one... and the winner is A **** ******

just give the fallen angel a dose of mescaline, and give her visions and she'll lead the way...

An angel isn't real but an ape is, therefor ape is the winner for me!

You never watched The Prophecy (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114194/), did you :)

It was filmed in the 1990's - too much of a classic for me :rip:

What does it mean?

I left it open for people to interpret as they chose, but in the end, for me at least, it would be about the difference between being a creature created by a God or by Evolution.

There are actually three of them... They get my vote for three of the best movies I have ever seen. No there are no awesome special effects, not a lot of blood and gore, no big names other than Christopher Walken, but if you are into the whole good vs evil thing, they are great flicks to sit through.

Lucifer was a fallen angel. Plus they have all the best music, none of that plinky plonk harp stuff. :3wink:

Any option for a fallen ape?

That Closer To Truth series is a fascinating one because it features many great modern day scholars in several facets of religion and the sciences.

Anyone see those two consecutively aired episodes of Frontline last night?

(Descriptions of each)
Scholars use new and controversial historical evidence to trace the first attempts to record the story of Jesus' life, the Gospels.

Scholars use new and controversial historical evidence to examine how the Christian movement evolved as it separated from Judaism.

They were very interesting.

As much as I'd like to be in the rising ape camp, my gargoyle wings (http://bulbboy.blogspot.com/2007/09/my-gargoyle-wings.html) and tongue being, well... you know the way it is, I'm probably on the other side of the fence. :3shocked:

And the clear favorite in the challenge is turning out to be fallen angel by more than a 2 to 1 margin... If the ape is going to catch up, there will have to be a major shift in preference!

I guess bashing your female on the noggin to get your jollies simply does not compare to knowing the truth...

Yes and No.

Photo of me but no PS or editing of any kind other than cropping. Ditto with my present av.

A friend who does special effects reminded me that the new wolfman trailer with Benicio del Toro is out too.

I suspect that is because I do not understand the OP's question fully.

Think of it this way Atom: Rising Ape equates to evolution, Fallen Angel equates to religion, thus the question becomes, would you prefer to be the product of evolution, or the product of a God.

Note the use of the word, 'prefer' as opposed to believe.

The whole question stems from the interview with Terry Pratchett and his phraseology.
