I suspect that if the plumes of highly ionized iron cooled to the point of de-ionization at their furthest extremes, there would be a ring of iron around the sun.

Helium, I think. Something with an H - I'm too lazy at 1am to look it up :P

I think you might be right Brian, it definitely is one of the gases. I should pull my finger out too, but I'm in the middle of vacuuming.
