"Computer" 1,500 years ahead of it's time (http://io9.com/5441889/advanced-imaging-reveals-a-computer-1500-years-ahead-of-its-time)

I always find these types of stories interesting (like the Baghdad battery (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baghdad_Battery)).

Here's a video of someone's reconstruction of it:

It makes you wonder what other decides have been lost through time... and why they were lost

'decides' should be 'devices'. oh well. :)

That is a very interesting device, not least because of the age in which it was designed. I'd take issue with calling it a computer though, clock certainly. My definition of a computer is a general purpose programmable machine, where as this device physically can only do one job once constructed. That said it certainly puts the ingenuity and knowledge of the Greeks into some perspective.

Two thousand years old my foot, my 8-track player is probably older than that thing.

The design is two thousand years old. The guy demonstrating it built a new one based on the original design to show it works. At least I think that's what the story is about.

Brian's post as a whole demonstrates that but the actual article is about the artifact.

Were you thinking of the one in the video Atom?

There is dating controversy with the Baghdad battery as well.

I actually see no reason why these devices can't be as old as is claimed, but that doesn't make the claims true.

I didn't notice there was an article.

The wiki page for the device is all Greek to me.

Jeez, I just had a look at the article and don't recall reading it myself. What the heck did I read? I suppose I could comb my browser history. lol
