Woman Pregnant With 12? Officials Doubtful - CBS News (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/08/18/world/main5249907.shtml)

Tunisian authorities are investigating a claim that a woman in Tunisia is pregnant with 12 babies.

French and British media reported the woman will soon give birth to six girls and six boys.

If true, the woman would shatter the world record for births, set earlier this year by American Nadia Suleman, whose birth of octuplets launched a media frenzy and earned her the nickname "Octomom."

Can a woman even survive the birth of 12 babies?

Well I assume it would be a cesarean birth, and I would expect she would be in hospital prior to her delivery in case of complications. Under those circumstances she probably will survive.

The real question is will all of the babies survive, what size will they be and will they need special care once born.

In England I believe only three embryos can be implanted during fertility treatment. Treatment has progressed to the point where the number of twins and triplets born in the UK is huge. For 12 embryos to have been implanted into this woman is outrageous!

Looks like another doctor wants to make the headlines and found himself a gullible carrier.
