A mystery knitter is spinning quite a yarn over one New Jersey shore town by putting jumpers over trees and lamp poles.

The question in my mind is not so much why, cos crazies are everywhere, but how? (Take a look at the picture). Admittedly you can only see one side of the trunks, but how?
Standing there sewing the two sides together must take time and thus witnesses must exist. Me think at least.

I would imagine that she/he is knitting a length of cloth, then knitting it the rest of the way onto the tree once there. It wouldn't take long for an experienced knitter to simply close the already knitted cloth over the tree.
