Twin Suicide Subway Attacks Kill 37 In Moscow - CityNews (http://www.citytv.com/toronto/citynews/news/international/article/73235--twin-suicide-subway-attacks-kill-37-in-moscow)
Pretty wierd to be reading about bombings at places I've been to.
I've ridden the Moscow subway system extensively and I've been to both bombed stations repeatedly. To blow up two stations is going to mess the system up for a while. I'm a bit surprised there were only 37 dead. Probably because they chose 8am on a Sunday. If it were 8am on a Monday? That number would be much higher.
I remember arriving one time, just after one of the tunnels below the street had been bombed, and the devastation was pretty bad. Most of the major intersections in Moscow have a tunnel system that is used for crossing the street. People cross underground instead of at street level. Many of these tunnels have shops along the walls and they become a gathering place for people. People coming home from work might, for example, stop in one of these tunnels to buy some food for dinner or some electronic gizmo for their kids, etc.
