One of my wife's DVD's got a scratch in it because my daughter watched it (and the rest of the series) constantly for over a month... At some point she scratched it and it wouldn't play anymore. Even though I have heard of fixing minor scratches with toothpaste I never had the need to try.

Well now I have and I can tell you that it really works wonders. I simply put a small amount on the surface of the disk where the scratch was and rubbed several dozen times from the center of the disk to the edge (never in a circular motion with the disc apparently). I then took a tissue and wiped the excess from the disk in the same direction as when I rubbed it. Now when I was finished the disk did looked quite "raw and wounded" but it was enough to play the disk again.

Apparently any type of liquid metal polish works even better.

Here is where I found the info (http://www.wisebread.com/quickly-removing-scratches-from-cds-and-dvds) about liquid metal polish... The youtube videos are all deleted but I couldn't have watched them anyway :D

You could use DVD Shrink to backup that DVD, now that you've got it working.

On the toothpaste, I've never tried it, but I've heard that it's good for zits.
Apparently, leaving a little bit of toothpaste on a zit overnight will burn it off.
Again... I haven't tried it, so I have no idea what it does to the skin overnight.

I've done this before.

I found that it made the DVD work for a while after, then you had to re-do the toothpaste thing. You do get special liquids for doing it properly (apparantly lasting forever), but I've never tried one of them.

I guess it makes the CD smell minty fresh as well.

I much as I would like to frolic in minty stacks of DVDs, I dare to say that this problem will fix itself in the downloadable/streaming age. But until then it is the toppermost of the poppermost of tips... same some paste for your disks, folks!

With this effect on human tissue, may I suggest to all my brothers here that we wait a while after the wife has brushed...:sqwink:

What if you don't use toothpaste? My dental hygiene method of late has been to use grape seed extract with bicarbonate of soda. Thought I'd try it for a few months to see how it worked.

Wonder if the abrasive quality of the bicarb would work as well?

Don't recommend the microwave-egg-chocolateSyrup-iceCream method though.

He's still a fully registered member. He just has the default avatar set.
Everything else is the same.
He's still the same WoobieMan we've all come to know and love.

He mentioned over at the other place that his life had taken a different turn that didn't leave him much time for forums anymore.
Sorry, Dude. Didn't think to let you know about that.

He DID say that he hoped to pop by once in a while.

Yup. And he was about as vague as can be, so you're really completely in the loop now.
I hope everything's going well for him.

When I was young I was told life would be a bitch... I did not think they meant it literally however.

Vague isnt all bad... thats the main reason my wife is still married to me. If I were not vague she would have dumped me over a decade ago ;)
