Oh, the French and Germans prance about hand in hand in Europe. They kind of started things off, market wise. They gang up against the rest of us all the time

ewomack
30-09-2009, 08:52 PM
Well at least one can PRONOUNCE German... I need to do tongue yoga to pronounce some of those French-isms...

They do make wonderful crepes, however...

Strong
01-10-2009, 04:26 AM
Ah Indeed! You have to give the French their dues, their pātisserie is to die for and yes their crepes, both sweet and savoury are scrumptious.

Atom

Louis XIV of France only had five baths in his entire life.

Strong
01-10-2009, 08:14 AM
Well I never said they smelt good! :sqwink:

Atom
01-10-2009, 08:18 AM
lol!

I was just watching a PBS doc last night, I guess his son was almost as bad, I only caught bits and pieces but apparently they both hated bathing for some odd reason.

Strong
01-10-2009, 08:35 AM
It was a sign of the times. For instance:

The Elizabethans considered baths to be a luxury, or to be taken as a health measure, not to be indulged in all that often. Elizabeth perhaps had a bath every few weeks, which by the standards of the day, was very frequent. She was very particular about personal hygiene, however, and would have noone or anything around her that smelt!

Bathing was about health in those days. It is only in recent times with the advent of proper sanitation and in door bathrooms that bathing on a regular basis became fashionable I suspect.

ewomack
01-10-2009, 08:18 PM
Ah! Those were the days!! Back when soap and shampoo manufactures would curse at each other and say "damn this classicism."

Halo
02-10-2009, 03:30 PM
If the great unwashed around you smelled bad, and you took a bath making your senses sharper wouldn't they smell even worse compared to you?

Better to stay unwashed if everyone else is too. :D

Oh, hai BD!

Strong
02-10-2009, 05:18 PM
No one who smelt was allowed in her presence. She could order their heads cut off. Thinking of the consequence could make the filthiest swine smell sweet.

In the land of the filthy the clean man is king...

Peasant 1: "Who was that?"
Peasant 2: "Must be a king!"
Peasant 1: "Why do you say that?"
Peasant 2: "He hasn't got shit all over him."
