Here's another reason to spend lots of time outdoors;

Exposure to specific bacteria in the environment, already believed to have antidepressant qualities, could increase learning behavior according to research presented today at the 110th General Meeting of the American Society for Microbiology in San Diego.

You can read a little more about that research in the link, pretty interesting stuff if I may say.

Very interesting indeed; move over fresh air and sunshine. Get your bacteria outdoors!

Bacteria have social lives too! Watched this TED vid a few times. I just love the rhythm of Bonnie Bassler's speech and how she says "vibrio fischeri."

Interesting experiment. But if it did improve learning, it didn't improve memory, cos those mice promptly forgot what they had learned.

Our bodies are full of good bacteria, we live a symbiotic life with many organisms. But not all bacteria are good for you.

It's the damn viruses that I hate.
