A teenage girl agreed to have under-age sex because she wanted to lose her virginity before the Large Hadron Collider caused the end of the world, it has been reported.

The girl, who is aged between 13 and 15, had heard rumours that particle accelerator under the Franco-Swiss border would bring about Armageddon when it was switched on last September.

But police in Brisbane, Australia believe that the teenage girl was so scared by the doomsday speculation that she agreed to have under-age sex with a boy in their school lavatories.

Her fears came to light after their sex acts were filmed by another boy at the school, with the footage circulated among pupils via their mobile phones.

Forget sex education it seems particle physics needs to be taught at school.

This can't be true. It must be the lamest excuse I've heard after being caught out!

He probably said, "Hey baby, I got your Hadron Collider right here."

I just noticed the article said she is between 13 and 15. So, what, that's like 14 then!?! :sqlaugh:

She's 22 minus 13 plus 5 years old.

Looking at the title of your thread, there, Strongy.

"The Large Hadron Collider Pops A Cherry"

is awfully close to

Yes, I thought the LHC seduced someone in a bizarre new realm of physics...

A serendipitous transposition.

Now THERE's a story... dang...

Too bad the LHC is still offline... if only the poor girl kept up with science news...

Apparently they are starting her up again this month. Repairs have been made.

Have any of you heard about the end of the earth on the 21.dec.2012? Saw it on tv the other day that a huge planet is going to hit us on that day.

Krisma: This article is a little elucidating. I don't give the story much credence. The Mayans could see our end but not their own? Makes no sense.

Note to Ed: read the bit about Bee Colony Collapse and soya beans. They rate the possibility as a 7/10.

The bee colony collapse is somewhat under control now, but still a threat. The disorder was traced to a virus... hive maintenance will keep it under control, so the probability is probably down to 4/10... but still enough to cause nightmares... the transport of bees from farm to farm apparently was one of the major causes, so they say...

I've heard about the Mayan calendar and done some reading.
December 2012 is just the end of their calendar, not the end of us.
Their long count calendar contains many more thousands of days than ours, 5125 years, to be exact.
December 2012 is just the end of one cycle and the beginning of another.
It's no more scary than us ending our calendar on December 31st.

Yes, a lot of hype has surrounded the Mayan calendar... I think Erik Von Daniken originated, or at least popularized, that theory. His "Chariots of the Gods," which sold in the oodles sometime in the 1970s, posited a theory that astronauts visited earth sometime in prehistory or early history. He cited the Mayan calendar and their technology as evidence. He admitted later that he made most of it up, but had a great time doing it.

Here is a good explanation about the Higgs boson: The science of Higgs boson explained (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-16171200)

The LHC is finally getting closer, this year, if all goes well, there should be confirmation.

(Apparently they shut down over the winter period to save money :sqconfused:)
