View Full Version : What's up with the server?

The last few days I experienced loads of problems loading pages and error messages due to the server not being able to coop with requests.

Maybe it's time to reset the damn thing? I know the site has recently been moved to a new server but if you ask me that server isn't very healthy at present times.

The only problem I have seen is not being logged in after returning after a day or so...

For me, pages take ages to load and often I receive the "cannot connect to the server" screen, that doesn't happen with other sites and I'm on a super-duper gamer computer and a fast internet connection.

This also only started like three days ago, before that, and even after the switch to the new server, it was all ok.

Maybe it's just a matter of optimising the tables in the DB, I don't know (it doesn't harm anyway) but from what I experience the server definitely has some issue grabbing stuff to serve my browser.

I'll optimize and see what's up.

Repaired and optimized database tables.
I didn't notice a change, but it was already loading pretty quickly for me. Still is.

Problem is back again, server timed out twice before I could post this.

Maybe it needs another repair and optimising of the tables, but that's not it, something causes it and I have no clue what that could be.

Done. Any better?

Ferre

Yep, much better.

It was messed up after only a few hours again, maybe it is an idea to set a cron job to repair and optimize once a day?

I've not encountered any problems of late.

Ferre

I just encountered another not able to connect to server screen again.

I did have a pause earlier on, when making a post. The server seemed to stall for a while, a minute or so, but then all was well again.

Ferre

I keep getting that shit, there definitely is something not ok with the server, these screen shots I made the past ten minutes, it is THAT bad.

Strong

I'm getting a slow response time occasionally as well, but not constantly. I've not been timed out though.

Bizarre. I've haven't experienced a single problem and I've logged in multiple times everyday for at least the past month. Am I blessed?

It could be an intermittent routing issue between here and Europe.
If that's the case, there's nothing I can do about that, short of having a replicated server in Europe somewhere, which ain't in the budget.

I do know that some of the plugins here take a while to load occasionally. (As evidenced by Ferre's second screenshot)

I thought of that too, went to torontoforums and opened a couple of pages when I had difficulties on this forum and encountered no problems on the torontoforums with loading times whatsoever.
At the moment everything works wonders though, but yesterday it was slow too.

Sometimes the screen says BTWIMHO taking too long to respond.

I have to mow today, please pray for me.

Atom
23-08-2010, 08:20 AM
The lawn won't even begin to dry for another 3 hrs, condensation from cool nights plus high humidity makes for some pretty moist growthage.

How much grass do you have to mow?lol, just a couple of acres.

Atom
23-08-2010, 08:57 AM
It actually should work out pretty good because it takes me about 3 hours to smoke enough weed in preparation for the event.

Atom
23-08-2010, 09:05 AM
The hardest part is actually the push mowing and string trimming, but it's not too bad, it's just that I can't breath too well and have to pace myself. Pacing myself is a challenge in itself.

Atom

What I've found to be a lot of fun is get really stoned and mow with the song Green Acres looping in my mind the whole time, it's especially enjoyable if it's in the key of the mower hum.

Atom
23-08-2010, 09:17 AM
I wonder if anyone would pick up on the pun if I said that mowing was a lot of fun.

Atom
23-08-2010, 09:29 AM
When I was very young I used a manual push mower, no human young or old should be subjected to that kind of manual labor, lol. It wasn't really that bad if the grass wasn't too high. Those were the days when you didn't just mow the lawn, you battled it, and those spring loaded grass shears, they'd make Hercules outta ya lol.

Zap poke around WHM and see what time your server crons are set to run. I forget specifically where it is I"ll look it up if you like. In particular, Awstats updating slows my whole VPS to a crawl, even static pages  I had to change the cron time to 6am (EDT) since most DJs are on my boards in the middle of the night.

You might want to change the frequency of some of the more DB heavy vBulletin crons too. ACP > Scheduled Tasks > Scheduled Task Manager.

I noticed that when pages are loading like a frikkin turtle on here I have this message in my browser bar that says; loading S7.addthis.com.

What(TF) is S7.addthis.com? Why does it load on this site and why is it slowing my BTWIMHO experience down? :sqerr:

Atom

I noticed it too, about a month ago I think. I noticed that it will resolve quickly though, depending on the ISP speed, so if you have a fast connection to begin with then the lag isn't readily noticeable because it's shorter.

Ferre
18-10-2010, 10:40 AM
I have 19300 kbps download speed, just did a test online, but I've got no clue whether that's fast or slow, I usually have not much lag when I surf though. And I did not have it here either before the last upgrade/update

At .6+ megabits per second it would take about 7 minutes to download a 35 megabyte video.

I think he morphed into this (http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/flakypastry_1282). He probably needs to chill for a while. Either that or he's had a sex change and got all menopausal on me. :sqconfused:
