How did you hear about us?
Well, my good friend, Zap, told me about it.

I'm not looking for a date, lol....

How long have you been using the internet and forums?
Oh, I dunno... maybe 6-7 yrs? Not sure... :sqconfused:

Thank you for taking part in this interview, Kalina. We appreciate your time and effort and we look forward to getting to know you.
Enjoy the forums!
Cool, thanks! This looks like a great place so I'm going to take a look around, thanks for the invite!

Hey Zap! I've been slow on the uptake ever since I got pregnant, lol. I plan to get back to work regularly after the baby is born and I have a routine going, right now everything's in chaos, still haven't unpacked fully, the hubby wants to paint rooms before moving stuff in them so we're kinda living amongst all our stuff right now! The main focus is getting the nursery done, the baby will be here in 2 weeks or less if current symptoms are any indicator.

Hope you've been taking Materna or something similar.
And don't forget to take calcium, even after the baby is born because that baby is going to suck it all out of you. Trust me on that one. :sqwink:

Yep, been taking prenatal pills the whole time, I am not a very good eater, so it's really a must for me, I however will not be breast feeding. We're doing formula. :)

Congratulations Kalina, it will be an awesome time for you I think. Babies are one of life's joys.

(I would add that breast feeding is not only ideal for the baby if possible, transferring your antibodies and immunity from germs, but also for your long term health. It has been shown that it reduces the instances of breast cancer in later life by as much as 60%, even if done for 6 months. That intimate time between mother and baby is very special. But it isn't easy and not for everyone. My wife had problems with it at first.)

Are we talking about milk again? How did that happen!?!

Zap
18-09-2009, 08:59 AM
Yeah. I assumed Kalina would be breastfeeding.
The Russians are big on that and it's just assumed a Russian mom will breastfeed.
My wife being Russian, she's influenced my thought process in that regard.

Formula is OK too, but man, does it get expensive!

Kalina
18-09-2009, 09:04 AM
Thanks, Strong. I am fully aware about breast milk being the best option but due to personal reasons, I can't do that. I am also comfortable in my decision as my whole family and husbands family were fed via formula and we're all fully functioning, healthy adults! :)

I hope I didn't come over all lecturery. It is very much a personal choice issue with me. Nothing wrong with formula. Except the bottle sterilization in the middle of the night. (We used one of those modern microwave ones, unfortunately our microwave is loud enough to wake the dead.)

I will be using disposable liners so we just have to sterilize our nipples. It's all good, it's just I do read all I can about any decisions I will be making before coming to a final decision and feel comfortable with this one. :)

The coolest thing about bottle feeding is dad gets to feed too! My wife breastfed both of our daughters but there were times when we'd feed them from a bottle (if I remember right it was something the doc wanted in their diet) and anyway it was cool to be able to be the feeder for once.

Hey, thanks for the welcome!

It's yellow on the top half and a turquoise on the bottom half of the walls, we're then putting up a border from Fisher Price where the two colors meet. We're going with the theme of their new line called "Precious Planet". When it's done I will post a picture. We just got the hardwood floor done in there last weekend, we took out the old carpet.

It was actually laminate, we got on sale at Rona. We needed 120 Sq ft, which cost us about $100. It was .89 per Sq ft... we figured we wouldn't spend too much cause who knows how long til we change it, it's just for now as this house is 134 yrs old and I didn't trust not knowing what's under that carpet nor how old it might have been. I can't recall right now, but I believe it was an Oak. I'll have to check the box, we bought one too many and have to return it.

It's actually more boyish looking so if it's a girl I said we can just get those stick on butterflies for the wall to soften it up and make it more girly, bringing some purples and pinks in. It's unsex right now but more boyish than anything but that's the precious planet colors. As long as it's not pink for a boy, I am not too worried about colors, lol...

Well with us it isn't so much the writing on walls, but the sticking of pictures drawn by the little artist that has left our walls hidden. And don't think of removing them! Tantrums and tears and reproachful looks can brake a parent's heart. And that is without the dreadful, "I don't love you any more!".

That and other culinary legends (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Croissant) about the croissant.

iowadawg
24-09-2009, 09:36 PM
The kipfel - ancestor of the croissant - has been documented in Austria going back at least as far as the 13th century, in various shapes [4]. The kipfel can be made plain or with nut or other fillings (some consider the rugelach a form of kipfel [5]).

The "birth" of the croissant itself - that is, its adaptation from the plainer form of kipfel, before its subsequent evolution (to a puff pastry) - can be dated with some precision to at latest 1839 (some say 1838), when an Austrian artillery officer, August Zang, founded a Viennese Bakery ("Boulangerie Viennoise") at 92, rue de Richelieu in Paris.[6] This bakery, which served Viennese specialties including the kipfel and the Vienna loaf, quickly became popular and inspired French imitators (and the concept, if not the term, viennoiserie, a 20th century term for supposedly Vienna-style pastries). The French version of the kipfel was named for its crescent (croissant) shape.

Yay for Braydon and the new Mummy! At least he wasn't this 19lb giant (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/8274602.stm)!

Get plenty of rest and enjoy!

Yay! The trials and tribulations are over!!! You're a mum!! Congrats!!!

I know you probably wanted to name him "Ed" but didn't out of embarrassment for me. I completely understand as this happens to me all of the time.

Just a little update, I delivered a 7lb, 19.5 inch baby boy on September 23rd at 12:33am. I named him Brayden, he's doing very well, and I'm getting there myself. It was a difficult delivery with some scary moments but it's all good now. :)

Congrats, Kalina! :D Are you going to post some pictures for us?

Thanks everyone... LOL @ green pooh, try yellow today. He's finally sleeping so I can get some work done. I am just posting two quick pics, I need to upload more recent ones when I get time.

This was his first outfit, he was a half day old here.

And this is day 3, meeting his cousins for the first time, the boy was trying to hog Brayden to himself, lol... normally it's him disinterested in babies and his sister who's all over them but he refused to let her near him, he used the swing to send her flying lol...

In the UK!?! I would be mad to admit to being a grouse, before you know it I'd have the aristocracy taking pot shots at me and chasing me with dogs.

Did have a pheasant attack our van the other day.

Van won.
Pheasant lost.
