Does anyone know how to do this? One of my laptops was used by an ex employee and now I can't get on the damn thing because I don't have her password. The safe mode route only works with XP apparently.

Easiest way is to contact her and ask for it.
Failing that, there are bootable utilities that will allow you to reset it to what you want.
Google "Winternals ERD".
It's a bootable CD that has it's own version of Windows on it but I don't know if it's been updated for Vista. It works great with XP.

This may help: How to Reset a Windows XP or Vista Password - wikiHow (http://www.wikihow.com/Reset-a-Windows-XP-or-Vista-Password) -- I've never tried it though.

In XP I just go the safe mode route. Are you sure cannot just make a new admin account in Vista under safe mode then go in and delete the other account from the new account?

In XP that works great, but not in Vista. Fear not! I tracked her down and after 6 guesses later she remembered the password! Why is it women have different passwords for everything? "Let's see...try "puffyfrosting", oh no that's for my recipe club site...ok try "snappygirl76", on no that's Facebook...ok, I know, try "bankstuff", no that's, well you know what that's for..."

I mean how do you girls remember all those? I have one password and if it requires a mix of letters and numbers, I have one for that, and if it has to be so many characters long, I have a third and final one for that. 3. And I can't remember those! Jesus.

Anyway, hers was first initial, last name. D'oh! I'm surprised it wasn't "bossisjerk" or "jobsucks"!

At least it wasn't her name backwards. I hacked into my school's computer using that one back in the day (but I didn't wreak any havoc... well, not much havoc at least)

I love guessing passwords.

I'm not very good at it though.

I have lots of passwords too, but I don't have to remember them all... I have a password book where I write them all down. Of course the most important ones like for the bank I have all in my head. =)

A business unit I once worked with posted their passwords on the wall. Security didn't really care for that... but they never forgot them... and neither did the hackers...

That's what I do. For extra security I hide the book in the attic under the box with the dragon statues, which is under the old NEC dot matrix 24 pin printer.

I must say that logging in to this place can be a bit of a pain at times. :sqerr:

we have a combination lock for the crawling space under our house, with the combination written in big in the chalkboard in the house. But this damn lock is so hard to open that we are not too worried about it.

Why Google is the best way to download MP3s. [VIDEO] (http://wimp.com/goodinfo/)

Note that in the second thing he shows you, the edu/pdf part, he forgot to put a period in between "index.of". That's why it didn't work. But the mp3 part works and with the period so does the edu part.

It was in with a lot of antiques I bought one time from a picker, like new in box, only worth 20 bucks back then. I got $900 for a small German paper mache Halloween lantern with two different devil faces on it, front and back. I paid $100 for the lot.

Those little lanterns fell out of favor around the early 1900's. They have a wire bail handle, and children would actually carry them around trick or treating with a lit candle burning inside them. They're quite popular among the collectors.
