View Full Version : Embed YouTube And Google Videos In Your Posts

Zap
06-08-2009, 08:58 PM
I've installed the plugin that allows members to drop YouTube videos right into their posts.

Instructions:
1. Get the video code from the YouTube website.
Example YouTube URL=hxxp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pE7uMjWJmbA
You need the pE7uMjWJmbA part.

2. Inside your post, just use the (YT)(/YT) tags with the video code in between the tags.
And use square brackets [] instead of rounded ones () or it won't work.

Code it like this...
pE7uMjWJmbA
...and you'll get this...
pE7uMjWJmbA

C & P the info between = and &. If it was embedded somewhere else or you clicked it from another video, it will have an ampersand and more in the string, which you don't want.

Viewing special characters like those mainly depends on the charachter encoding of a page. Most (well coded) websites will have the encoding set by default to whatever the webmaster wanted to use, but it can always be overridden by the user via their browser (e.g. in FF go to View>Character Encoding) - which is probably why Muddy cannot see the characters while others here can (probably set to UTF-8 instead of ISO-8859-1 or something along those lines).

Sorry...I ment to say Strong. No idea why I got you two confused :sqerr:

Oh and atom the numbers do mean something. I can't remember what right now (and am too lazy to look it up, think it's the symbols code or something) but basically theres different "defualt symbols" depending on what the character encoding conflict is (sometimes its that black diamond with a ? inside it, sometimes it's the 2x2 grid with numbers in it, think theres a few more). The 2 I mentioned, I believe ones for UTF conflicts, and the other's for ISO conflicts.

Its been a while since I did anything with char encodings though, I've forgotten most of the details...

You know TS I checked the character encoding in FF and it was set to Western ISO-8859-1 already. I tried changing it to something else and then back again, it didn't make any difference. :sqconfused:

Thats weird, cause thats what mine is set to (and I can see them fine) and i'm about 95% sure that a charachter encoding conflict causes those symbols...I'd have to look it up sometime.

I don't think the font should matter, but I guess if the font being used didn't have the right characters then it would have nothing to display, so maybe it does (my font is set to "Times New Roman" if that helps at all).
