An Italian scientist says he has reproduced the Shroud of Turin - and therefore proved the relic is a medieval fake.

Producing something "which has the same characteristics as the Shroud" does not prove the relic is a fake, only that you have produced something which has the same characteristics as the Shroud.

The shroud has never been authentic enough to call a fake. That's like calling the shriveled hands and pieces of clothing supposedly from saints "fake." They never reached a level of credibility to even warrant such analysis.
