A government-backed drive is promoting textbooks which say his reign of terror was entirely rational and necessary to make Russia great

It's a disservice to the people who didn't survive the Stalin years and the ones who barely survived.

Orwell was known for making political commentary by way of using his books to illustrate where the underlying principles & practices would lead. Hard to read Animal Farm or 1984 and not see this sorta thing coming. He rather obviously wasnt a huge fan of their method. BUT... you can't watch our own history evolve without noticing (hopefully) that revisionist history is a traditional tactic of *politicians*... not just Communists.

Give it another generation or two and kids somewhere may be studying from textbooks praising Hitler and Stalin for being ahead of their time with their earth-friendly strategies to aid in population control.

Odd, but the older generation in Russia remember the Stalin years as the best years of Russia and would like those times to come back.

Yes, I always thought that history books, etc....treat Stalin less unfairly than Hitler.
Though Stalin, and Mao, killed more people than Hitler did.

Yeah... the 20th century was a good one for mass death... for sure...
