Does anyone know where I can get an iPhone 3G CHEAP?? :sqerr:

Stealing one is the cheapest way I can think of.

other than that, I'm pretty useless.

I thought of that, but then in my town it wouldn't work... we all know each other. They would see me using it and get me arrested.

Solution:
Go to another town and steal one of theirs....

In each country, there is usually one or two providers that they will work with.
Best is to start there and see what their pricing is.
The iPhone 3G has come down in price a lot, due to the release of it's superior replacement, the iPhone 3GS.

LOL! Leave it to Zap to have the latest iPhone scoop!

Remember this is Germany we're talking about. That could start a world war!

That one answers itself. Go to France. Goose step as you enter, and steal one, preferably in broad daylight in public. Traditionally they won't make a lotta effort to stop you.

it's not the first time someone from texas will have this kind of speech. (or in north america for that matter) We're used to it, not that it makes it any better.

It's just a difference of culture. When half of your family died because of the world war, you tend not to joke about it as much.

julien_simon

The first time I spent Halloween in Canada, we went to a party and the guy that opened the door was dressed as Hitler.

Again, it's a difference of culture. this would not be acceptable in France. I try to be open minded but I am not gonna laugh.

Not shooting for a raw nerve. Two of my uncles (both from Texas btw) were buried while defending France and Belgium.

I'm not trying to start a fuss here and I am very thankful for all the people who came over to deliver France when this fight didn't really concerned them.

I'm just explaining that I don't think this matter is laughable. that's it.

robjones

Understood. Texans like to joke, and yeah, stereotypes are an easy giggle. Then again we have the highest ratio of volunteers to population in the entire US military. We kid a lot, but if somebody needs help we're likely gonna be the first to show up.

Fwiw, an uncle that lived thru Normandy is now a retired Baptist preacher, and also my best source if I need a juicy joke about Baptist preachers.

Agreed. Stereotypes are an easy giggle. I probably laugh about something that would hurt somebody else.

again, it all depends where you are born and what you culture is. Growing up, I was really close to my grand parents and the stories they told me did not make me want to joke about that war ever. Plus the history courses.

I bet ya this Japanese stuff thread wouldn't amuse lots of Japanese people but we find it hilarious.

but that thread is a lighter topic than war.

Again, I'm really thankful for all the people who came to rescue us because I would have probably lose more family members without them.

Yes I have a tip, don't drink olive oil too close to the candles and for god's sake, stay off the phone. The TV will keep you company. lol

I often wonder what my life would be like with a cell phone.

Definitely! No question about that. Many Americans think it's funny, when they don't even know really why the things are like they are. I had a talk to my kids a few days back about the wall in Germany separating west and east. They didn't have a clue why it was there, when it was there and when it came down either. GOLLY, I love school, I hope they get the history class real soon! Our history is what makes us what we are today.

I've never thought war was funny...I get uncomfortable at a lot of jokes made at anyone's expense. I'm not sure why some Americans are so callous about a lot of things...maybe I should've been born elsewhere

People think the war was 50 years ago but don't realize that 20 years ago, the Berlin wall was still up.

I lived with a whole bunch a german women in Sweden and one night at the bar, some people told them they should go out and celebrate and should hide in shame.

People can be so stupid. It really pisses me off.

I've unbelievable debates with American adults about the following:

- How many World Wars occurred in the 20th century. This person claimed there was only one.
- The difference between the American Revolutionary War and the Civil War. Someone thought the Civil War happened in 1776. When I told them that we actually fought against the British she was shocked. I didn't mention the War of 1812.

Both of these people had advanced degrees.

Actually the term world war was not used for the first one.
Not until the second war was the first called the first.

But some debate as to whether they were truly world wars, since in both cases so much of the world avoided the fights.

ewomack
25-10-2009, 12:34 AM
Yes, it was often called "The Great War" prior to WWII. But most history teaches that there were two big wars. One that lasted until about 1917-8 and another to 1945.

History is always written by the winners.

Just like the Civil War is called that because the North won.
Down in Dixie, it is still the Northern War of Aggression.

I just finished reading a book called "A Soldier of the Great War" by Mark Helprin. Good book.

Many people lack curiosity about where they and their country came from. I don't know if it's laziness, fear, or just plain "I don't care." I can't go day to day without observing my surroundings, questioning the society I live in and its values, and researching the origins of the lifestyles we lead. Maybe I'm the deranged one? One thing I know, most people have way more fun than I do.
