A Geodesic Dome (http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/buildingbig/educator/act_geodesic_ho.html)

What's the strongest dome you can build out of newspaper?
A geodesic dome is a dome formed by joining triangles together. You can build a giant geodesic dome out of newspaper. First, gather some friends or family members to help you.

What You Will Need
• many newspapers
• masking tape
• measuring tape
• markers, glitter, beads, and glue for decorating

Make a Prediction
Predict how many magazines you think your newspaper dome will be able to support.

Full instructions included.

Ignore the stupidity of this bit:

Be sure to mark all the longs clearly in some way, such as with colored tape, so you can tell them apart from the shorts.

Have you got any ideas of what we could make with a little spare time?

What is this thing you call spare time? I have no idea of what you're referring to...

OK, move along then, this thread doesn't concern you. :sqwink:

If you have ever wondered what ear wax could be turned into, you have spare time.

But my insatiable curiosity is gaining hold over any self control I may have had. I MUST know what spare time is.
Please...don't leave me in distress. :help:

Hi.

Spare time is what you have when you are not do anything else. Meaning that we who love the net will never have spare time.

(...)Have you got any ideas of what we could make with a little spare time?Yes. Wine. Love. Stuff like that. I used to enjoy hunting and fishing a lot but all that I seem to have made was memories.

Hi,

Good one I hope. Didn't you eat the stuff you caught/shot cooking is making something.

Speaking of wine any one here of Dandelion Wine?

Never tried that so let go make that.

@Strong what you are making is working on the same principles as this. Weight distribution.

Bed of nails - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bed_of_nails)

Right!!!

I sometimes think that memories are fraught with a bit of inaccuracy though, but I suppose that if they were exact then we'd simply be living our lives over.

I was expecting a bed of nasty toe nails or something and wondering why Wikipedia would have that entry...

(...)Yes, I did eat them, I did do a lot of catch and release fly fishing toward the end of my fishing adventures though. Good point about cooking is making something. Yes I've had dandelion wine and it seems to me that it's the fruit that you decide to put in along with the dandelions that really makes the wine.

I'll wiki it now!! I thought it was just made from the yellow flowers.

Like rose wine from roses

Yes, I suppose they both boil down to how weight is distributed, with the nails, there are so many nails that their is not enough weight at each point to break the skin and with the dome, its structure distributes and transfers any weight put on the top through to the base.

have you actually built of of these?

Well I was thinking of things to do as opposed to the spare time aspect, but since when has any thread at BTWIMHO not digressed into a multifaceted demon :sqlaugh:

No! I was saving the dome for a rainy day. The 60 rolls of paper was a little daunting. But I will do, when I find the time.

Hi,

According to Dr. Joyce Brothers it's OK to talk to your self. I would only worry if you answer yourself and then go Huh. :sqlaugh:

In the now hoary video game (text adventure) "ZORK," if you said "talk" and didn't mention to who, the game would display "Talking to yourself is a sign of impending mental collapse."

I haven't seen a great interest in text adventure revivals...

My curiosity made me waste my time again... I had completely forgotten that there was a Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy text adventure (http://www.douglasadams.com/creations/infocomjava.html)...

This screenshot even features the collapse quote above... synchronicity in action?

Ok, I'll stop this namby pamby drainage soon... I shouldn't be aghast at all, but one can actually play Zork online here (http://thcnet.net/zork/index.php)...
