All to get you to buy supplemental insurance.
I've been bombarded with mail as well, from both the government and the private companies, but mostly the private companies. Another place we are bombarded with private companies begging for our business is on TV, where one really has to ask how these companies can afford such costly ad time. It seems apparent to me that they must be making a lot of money off us, and all because our medicare system is sorely inadequate.

    Medicare is okay....very adequate.
But then, people want too much from the government without paying too much.
Go here, best starting point for medicare on the net...

I've been there, and I completely disagree with your assessment that Medicare is okay and very adequate. I am talking about Original Medicare and not the bunch of crap options that follow. I believe that every US citizen in this country should have the same coverage, and it should be adequate. We do not have the same coverage when we turn 65, and it is anything but adequate for the poor, which is most of us.

In this country, if you aren't rich, then you're poor.

Oh, you make fifty grand a year? Big fucking deal. Do you not realize how insignificant that is to a rich person?

I'm sure that Original Medicare is quite adequate, to the rich.

The "Medicare System" is based on money and greed, just like everything else. If you can't afford to pay for the extras, you will go without. Also, if you can't afford to pay a monthly premium for part B (medical insurance), you are fucked. You can forget about doctor visits. This is not why I paid years of taxes into the system when I was working. I thought the government knew what they were doing. What a fucking mistake THAT was.

All the while I should've been pursuing extreme wealth. Who the fuck knew? Ordinary people are fucked in this system, and remember, that is most of us.

Sure, there are exceptions, but I'm not talking about them, I'm talking about the average Joe, which most of us are.

My apologies, ladies. I'm sure I could've come up with a more modern term but I wasn't thinking. For the record, I do not generally believe that men are better than women, even though I was born and raised in a time where we were conditioned to believe that.

How can we be expected to vote when we are given no assurance at all of where our votes are actually going? Are we simply to believe the news media? That's not my idea of assurance. I don't know how to fix the problem but surely there must be a way. There are other problems with our voting system as well, but I think this is where we should start, otherwise the rest doesn't really matter, does it.

I would rather see people not vote than cast uneducated votes. Someone who knows nothing about the candidates, the issues or who can't even name all the branches of government probably doesn't have a lot to add to the polls besides dredge. Yes, people should vote, but if you can't find the United States on a globe then your vote is likely wasted. Someone recently told me that their father used to valiantly drag them to the polling place every election because we should be proud that we live in a democracy and such, but this person didn't mention whether their father made them learn anything about the candidates or about their own government. If they were just going to the polls and filling in random holes then I would rather have that person not vote at all. That's not even voting, that's guessing. It's definitely nothing to be proud of, nor is voting merely for the sake of voting. We definitely have the freedom to remain ignorant, I just wish that so many people wouldn't exercise that right.

That is disturbing. Though I do suppose it could spice things up considerably on Valentine's day.

Ok, I'll admit that I haven't even enrolled in medicare yet. They give you the month of your 65th birthday plus the three months before and the three months after for a total of 7 months to enroll, but I have read a lot about it and it seems to me that Original Medicare is actually inadequate, and that is why there are private companies, to pick up the slack. Also that makes it cheaper for the gov. But I don't think it's right for the government to share its responsibility in this, not to even mention that it's with companies that make money off us. Every US citizen should be covered equally by medicare, and adequately, but that's not the way it is.

So does that mean that people should also assume that the actual vote collecting process is legitimate? How many "election officials" do you suppose exist in this country?

Who are these "election officials"? As far as I know they are just old people that are retired and have a lot of spare time.

It would be nice to know that our votes are actually counted, and are applied accordingly to the intended candidate or issue, don't you think?

I could go even higher up the ladder, but there's no need to if the corruption is at base level. We need to fix first things first.
